Facts about pigs, the adage where pigs are involved can be applied right here: Don't believe everything you listen to. Pigs have been given a poor or skewed rap in cartoons and the media. Someone might only have to raise pigs themselves to become amazed at some of the untruths of some of the myths attached to this kind of animal. The Porky Mouse character alluded to the fact that domestic swine were slow of the brain and much other media uses from the pig have perpetrated the parable that they are dirty and sluggish. This is simply not true. A few walkthroughs and debunk some of these myths one at a time.

Okay, the image of a mouse constantly being mud protected is indeed one point that may be true. But, it's not really because they like becoming dirty, but instead, since they have a problem sweating. Therefore when summer temperatures will be sweltering, they have an incredibly difficult experience staying cool. Covering themselves in cool, wet, dirt allows them to cool themselves down and deal with all those high summer temperatures. Therefore, this is a survival stage and not a hygiene concern as perpetrated.

Also, in case you watch them in their shelter once confined, they are very careful to reserve one area for excrement far away from their food. They allocate one area for going to bed and food. This habit proves to most that they perform to take the time to separate themselves coming from, shall we say, the dirtier aspects of life; virtually all would prefer to do their "business" outside if given the opportunity.

Well, if you're keeping your pigs in a 10 by ten-stall they might seem lazy to you. However, if you are raising your domestic swine in a dignified way exactly where they have access to pasture and open space you would notice that they are anything but lazy. They will love to run, jump and play. They also are champ diggers and will eat unwanted plants in your pasture main first. This can be great in areas that you wish to eliminate harmful or pesky vegetation such as poison parsnip, burdock, sumac and more.

A pig owner who increases their pigs with pride will immediately see that they will aren't dumb. When being shown the boundaries of their meadow, especially one with electrical fencing, they quickly find the idea that the area of the fence is off-limits. They also are more dog-like than you can imagine when you've ever raised them. That they love to be trained. It's easy to teach them cues and also have them laying down, rolling more than (usually for a tummy scratch), moving away, or heeling. Some people have even eliminated so far as to take some upon as pets that live within their household and are easily free of diapers like cats or canines.

They'll Eat Anything
This is simply not true, as anyone who's elevated them would tell you. Exactly like your kids, there are the "Mikes" who will "try" anything; however, trying doesn't mean feeding on. If they taste this and don't like it they won't consume it. Some people have reported that they've repeatedly attempted to get them to eat onions and it is a lost cause. This might have something to do with their fantastic smelling ability. Onions, in the end, have an overpoweringly strong smell that may bother their scent act of smelling. But like all people and animals, some eat one thing that other folks won't touch.

So take time to really learn about pigs before you easily believe unhealthy press they're given. Just like any animal, all they need is a loving, dignified existence with rewards and limitations given to them in a respectful method.
